A PC Card-sized wireless remote, the AVOV PP-2400 is made of hard plastic, measures only 5mm thick, weighs just 23g, sports a six command buttons, and controls your presentation slides from up to 30m indoors. The AVOV PP-2400 is ultra slim and slides away easily into an open PCMCIA slot. The AVOV PP-2400's greatest appeal is surely its ease of setup. The snap-in USB dongle is automatically identified and configured in a matter of seconds. There are no software or drivers to install. You can immediately activate your presentation through four basic commands: Slides (activate full screen presentation), Next (new slide), Prev (previous slide) and Esc (return to original application screen). A Fn button adds four additional functions including Black and White Screen (turns viewing area off in either colour), Alt-Tab (cycles through all open apps so you can select a new presentation), and Link (re-establishes RF link if the signal is broken). The remote also includes a handy laser pointer and will turn itself off after 30 minutes of idle time. In operation, I found the AVOV PP-2400 exceptionally easy to use. The USB dongle snaps into place a little too snugly, you need good nails or a pen nib to pry it from the main body. The commands and functions perform as indicated with some surprising bonuses. Besides PowerPoint slides, you can use the remote to page up and down Word documents, web pages and even Outlook emails. Interestingly, the Alt+Tab function checks email in Outlook and refreshes the page in browsers. My only grouse with the AVOV PP-2400 is that you need two hands (and two buttons) to activate certain commands where one button would have been sufficient. Alas, that would have made it more crowded and destroyed the elegant simplicity of this remote.
